Samsung 在上月發佈Galaxy Tab 10.1不久，便再傳出將會有一款8.9"的Galaxy Tab推出，Samsung已經在其新產品發佈網站Samsungunpacked放上了Galaxy Tab新機預告，預示會在3月22日正式發佈新機，這日期正是CTIA 2011的發佈時間，暗示新的Galaxy Tab將會在CTIA 2011大會上發佈。在預告網頁中，可以看到"78910"的數字, 很容易令人聯想數字指的是尺寸，當中僅剩下89沒有出現在現時的Galaxy Tab，顯示便是指Galaxy Tab 8.9。
